The Meaning of Hahamongna

The original settlers of the region were sometimes called the Hahamongna Indians. The word means "Flowing Waters, Fruitful Valley" in the native Tongva language.

Logan Turner Wins Disc Golf’s 34th Annual Wintertime Open Amateurs Event

The 34th Annual Wintertime Open for amateurs was held in Pasadena, California over the weekend of February 11-12, 2012 at the Oak Grove Disc Golf Course in Hahamongna Park, with the pro tournament taking place this coming weekend, February 18-19.

With 91 disc golfers coming out to compete, it was Logan Turner of Pasadena who emerged the winner of the men's open division with a final score of 3-over par. Turner had a second place finish at the event last year, tying Kyle Hughes of La Canada, California. He had a fourth place finish in the open division at the Ice Bowl in Paradise in 2011.

Chris Traven of Redondo Beach, California finished in second place scoring just a stroke behind at 4-over par. Traven had a second place finish at last year's Sky High Showdown at Mountain High Northyes. He was followed by Nick Newton of Vista, California who finished with a score of 6-over par. Newton came in second place at last September's California State Flying Disc Championships.

A.J. Risley of San Marcos, California finished at a stroke behind Newton in fourth place scoring 7-over par, while Patrick Paramore of San Diego, California finished in fifth place with a score of 8-under par.

The women's winner of the advanced division was Phikounthong Scoggins of Los Angeles, California, scoring 31-over par. Scoggins had several victories in the division in 2011, including the Coyote Classic, the Ladies La Mirada Pro-Am and the End of the Trail Classic.

Roger Snider of Los Angeles captured the victory in the advanced masters division with a score of 4-over par. He was the winner of the advanced division last year in the Fling XV, held in May. Helen Wilson of Victorville, California won the division for the women scoring 69-over par. Wilson had several victories in 2011, including the Shark Tooth Open and the So Cal Series Championships in the advanced division.

The advanced grandmasters division win went to John Babin scoring 15-over par, while he was followed by Gary Abraham in second, with Mike Reeves and Dale Ventress finishing in a tie for third place. Matthew Hutchings of Laguna Hills, California won the intermediate division with a final score of 15-over par while Brandon Bies and Wing Ko finished in second and third place respectively.
