The Meaning of Hahamongna

The original settlers of the region were sometimes called the Hahamongna Indians. The word means "Flowing Waters, Fruitful Valley" in the native Tongva language.

Capturing Hahamongna's wildlife in his lens

Gary Altadena

Found a new photographer friend hiking in the upper arroyo . First thing that stands out is the huge piece of glass he packs (700 mm). Denis Callet, an import from France, can be found photographing wildlife right here above the Hahamongna dam up to five hours a day.

The thing that is cool about Denis is, as hikers pass, he will invite them to take a look in the camera and shares stories and the capture of the day. Some might perceive the area as a gravel pit, but it is indeed a wildlife sanctuary . With the Hahamongna sediment removal project looming I would assume readers of Altadenablog will enjoy Denis Callet's fabulous finds:

As always It's Gary Altadena, hangin' on the westside.
