FAQ: How Much Is the County's Sediment Trucking Program Likely to Cost?

The cost keeps rising. Three years ago the original estimate was $25-30 million. Recently county officials have been saying $70-80 million, but privately they will admit that the cost is likely to go as high as $100 million simply to truck massive amounts of sediment from behind Hahamongna to local landfills.

And that pales in comparison to the County-wide cost. The County is likely to spend $3-5 billion in the next twenty years to excavate and truck sediment from its fourteen dams and one hundred sixty two debris facilities throughout the County.

Of course that won't solve the problem. The sediment will just keep coming.
